What we ask
Five requests to the municipality
We ask the alderman and the municipal council of Diemen to take the following steps.
- Raise the limits in the BRS. In the Bestuurlijke Regie Schiphol, ask for an explanation of the chosen margin (Q3 + 3 × IQR instead of the usual Q3 + 1.5 × IQR) and push for stricter limits, above all at night.
- Support the call for a quiet night. Early this year, seventeen municipalities around Schiphol asked the minister to close the airport at night. Let us know whether Diemen supports that call and what the municipality is doing for it.
- Commission independent research. Have the municipality itself, or an independent party, find out what the new limits mean for Diemen, instead of relying on Schiphol's figures.
- Look into legal action. Six environmental and residents' organisations are going to challenge the Luchthavenverkeerbesluit (the airport traffic decree). Find out whether Diemen can join them or support the case.
- Keep the council and residents informed. Agree on a fixed moment, say twice a year, when the alderman reports what the municipality has achieved in the BRS and in its talks with other municipalities.
