Up to 80% more night-time noise allowed over Diemen

We are residents of Diemen, and aircraft noise keeps us from sleeping. According to research by NRC, the new rules give Schiphol room for about 80 percent more noise over Diemen at night than even the worst-case scenario requires. That scenario already accounts for bad weather, noisy aircraft and unfavourable routes.

What this is about

  1. At each of the 207 measuring points, the new limits are above the worst-case scenario.
  2. A professor of statistics calls the level of the limit a political choice, not a necessity.
  3. Diemen has a seat in the Bestuurlijke Regie Schiphol, where municipalities consult with the national government and the airport. That is where Diemen can make its voice heard.
  4. Objections to the new rules can only be made until around 8 December 2026
